Juana Lopez of Whittier, California is in deep distress, her 12-year-old Shar-Pei, Reina, having been euthanized after she went missing three days prior. Animal control officers had located Reina, who was half-blind and deaf, and taken her to a vet in Pico Rivera, where a microchip scan revealed no information. Despite her having a microchip implanted only three days prior, the officials made the decision to euthanize the dog without attempting to locate her owner.
Lopez informed KTLA 5 that the euthanasia of a dog is not an acceptable solution, as someone might be out there searching for their pet. She was unable to reclaim Reina's remains, and noted that the dog had some health issues, but was receiving treatment and doing well.
